Computing
At Bloxham, children use technology to create, solve problems and share their ideas. Computing gives them the chance to understand how digital tools work, make thoughtful choices about using them and discover what they can make for themselves.
From an idea to something that works
Children learn to give instructions, test what happens and improve their work. In Year 3, for example, pupils make stop-motion animations and use Scratch to program interactive stories and games. A character might not move as expected the first time. Children look at their instructions, work out what needs changing and try again.
As they move through school, pupils return to important ideas and build on them. They learn to use digital tools with increasing confidence and purpose, including when technology helps them learn or communicate in another subject.
Confident and safe online
Knowing how to use technology includes knowing how to use it wisely. Online safety is taught throughout our computing curriculum, with dedicated learning supported by Project Evolve. Children explore topics such as online relationships, the information they share and what to do if something online worries them.
Our Safer Internet Day activities give children further opportunities to talk, ask questions and practise making sensible choices. We want them to know that they can always turn to a trusted adult for help.
We follow the Teach Computing curriculum, helping children develop their knowledge step by step as well as the creativity to put it to use.
Come and ask our pupils what they have made—they can show you the thinking, testing and problem-solving behind the finished result.
